Mercy
Jesus taught that the second-greatest commandment is to love your neighbor
as yourself. And then he went on to describing who is a neighbor with his
parable of the Good Samaritan -- not
just your friend, not someone you might be comfortable with, but those in
need whom God brings across your path.
Support to the Deacon Fund at Redeemer goes to just such as these whom the
church will be able to help.
Redeemer encourages individual Christians to get involved, but also helps
on a corporate level.
One grave area of need in North Alabama is the growing problem of drug and
alcohol addiction, especially methamphetamine abuse. The jails are full.
Families are broken apart. And there is simply not enough help and too
few Christian programs that apply the Gospel to freeing people from their
addictions, destructive life styles and habits.
A shining example of the power of the Gospel to change even drug addicts'
lives can be seen at Restoration Ranch in Colbert County. If you would
like to go visit and get involved, please speak to David Vial, one of our
deacons, who has begun bringing church members to visit and get involved
with this program.
Missions
We support both missions ministries and also missionaries. Following is
a list of some of them. We hope you will consider supporting them too.
- Missionaries
- Ministries & Organizations
- Shoals Sav-A-Life
- Evangel Presbytery
- The Presbyterian Church in America
Redeemer has made a commitment to support that is more than a check in the
mail. Every year they take a team to visit the foreign missionary on the
field and to help in their ministry. In summer 2004, a team went to
Taiwan with the Lintons. In 2005, a team went to the Ukraine with Bibles
for Russia and the McCroskeys. This summer, the team plans to go to
Cambodia to visit and help with the evangelism, discipleship and mercy
ministry of Gioia Michelotti.
Each team for the year has to raise the support for the short term mission
trip. Would you like to help them? Or would you like to join them?
