What Do Hockey, Loneliness, Israel, Jesus and Football Have in Common?

By: Dan Seale

All these topics are on my (Pastor Dan) summer/sabbatical reading list. I thought one way we could stay connected over the summer is to be reading a couple of shared books.  Hopefully you can squeeze in a little extra time to read these two books.

The Rest of God: Restoring your Soul by Restoring Sabbath by Mark Buchanan

This looks helpful to any in Raleigh who feel busy, tired and stretched thin.

Rejoicing in Christ by Michael Reeves

This book looks promising to direct my heart and mind to Jesus as my righteousness, holiness, hope and joy.  I am excited about reading this one slowly.

Here are some other books I hope to read this summer:

June:

Understanding the Land of the Bible: A Biblical Theological Guide

I am reading this for our trip to Israel.

The Rest of God: Restoring your Soul by Restoring Sabbath  - see above

July:

Rejoicing in Christ    -  see above

Us Against You

Frederik Backman develops interesting and insightful characters and is a master storyteller.

August:

Finding God in My Loneliness

I was prompted to buy this book after the recent Cigna Survey about loneliness. James K.A. Smith also addresses the issue of loneliness in his article Not Meant to Be Alone.

Friday Night Lights

Clear eyes. Full hearts. Can’t lose.

What are you reading this summer?

Comment below and I will add it to a growing stack of books just in case I make it through this list. I also plan to listen to some family books on Audible as I drive this summer.  Recommendations are welcome. Enjoy your summer reading.
